STATUTES OF THE «MINERS AND MINES OF RUSSIA» AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

1. Amateur photography competition “Miners and Mines of Russia” is organised as a part of the ”MINEX Russia” – annual Mining and Mineral Exploration Forum.
2. Participation in the competition is open free of charge to amateur photographers working at the Russian and International companies and organisations in Russia. Organising committee cannot reimburse travel expenses of the competition nominees and winners wishing to attend the Awards presentation ceremony. Where nominee or winner cannot attend the Awards presentation ceremony, his/her nominee diploma or prize will be posted by “Russian Post” to the address indicated in the Application form submitted with the photographs.
3. These statues define organisation of the “Miners and Mines of Russia” Amateur photography competition (hereinafter Competition)
4. The Competition is managed by the Organising Committee of “MINEX Russia” – annual Mining and Mineral Exploration Forum. Competition co-organisers are The Russian Society of Experts on Mineral Resources (NAEN), Information and Publishing Center on Geology and Mineral Resources – Geoinformmark Ltd. Main Information Partner of the competition is the Russian Mining Portal.
5. The competition jury will include mining specialist, as well as artists, professional photographers and editors of leading mining media.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION

• Presentation of the wealth of Russian mineral resources as seen through the photo cameras of people working in the mining industry in Russia;
• Creating objective image of Russian mining industry for present and future generations of miners;
• Providing an opportunity for mining companies and organisations to participate in a unique social project aimed at promoting mining profession and development of a unique platform where amateur photographers working in mining industry can express themselves;
• Creation of the national Internet-based Photo Club devoted to mining and geological amateur photography in Russia.

ORGANISING COMMITTEE OF THE COMPETITION

1. The Organising Committee is formed by the members of ”MINEX Russia” – annual Mining and Mineral Exploration Forum, The Russian Society of Experts on Mineral Resources (NAEN), Information and Publishing Centre on Geology and Mineral Resources – Geoinformmark Ltd, Russian Mining Portal as well as companies sponsoring the competition.
2. Tasks and duties of Competition’s Organising Committee:
• Overall organisation of the competition (design of website, promotion, registration of contestants, organisation of the award ceremony, media communications, etc.)
• Definition of the terms and conditions of the Competition;
• Definition of nomination categories;
• Coordination of media liaisons;
• Liaisons with sponsors;
• Jury selection and coordination of its work;
• Organisation of the Competition award ceremony;
• Organisation of the presentation of the finalist photos at the “MINEX Russia 2012″ Forum
• Organisation of media coverage of the Competition;
• Preparation of “Miners and Mines of Russia 2012″ publication which will include photographs entered in the Competition;
• Organisation of the Russian National Club of amateur photographers working in the mining industry

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION

1. The Competition is open to the amateur photographers employed by the Russian or international companies operating in the mining sector in the Russian Federation;
2. To participate in the Competition an application must be submitted to the Competition Organising Committee. Please download the application form.
3. When required, photographers must seek company’s approval when submitting photographs of the mines and facilities operated by their mining company before entering the competition.
4. Only works that have passed the preliminary selection and approval by the organising committee will be accepted for participation in the Competition.
5. Applicant can submit photographs for participation in several Competition categories.
6. Applicant can submit no more than 5 (five) photographs.
7. No more than 10 (ten) photographers from the same company can take part in the Competition;
8. The maximum amount of photographs submitted to the competition – 1000.
9. Photographs must be submitted royalty free. Applicants agree that the Competition organisers can use the photographs free of charge for producing media articles, announcements, press releases, as well as for artwork of printed and online products for MINEX Forum. All photographs, when possible will bear an indication of authorship.
10. Deadline for entering the Competition: 10 September 2012

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS SUBMISSION

1. Photographs submitted for the Competition must be the property of the applicant and be royalty free.
2. Photographs must be submitted as JPEG in two formats: “Originals-High resolution” and “Preview – Low Resolution”.
3. Each photograph should be accompanied by a brief description not exceeding 50 words. For example, “field XXXX XXX exploration of gold in the area. Summer of 2011 “or,” The introduction and launch of XXX XXX technology at XXX company. Winter 2010″, or “mining engineer at XXX XXX XXX at XXX field in XXXX. Spring 2012 “or” XXX mineral. XXX deposit”.
4. Applicant must submit full name, company name, best contact telephone number and email address.
5. Requirements for the original photos: format – JPG, size – up to 2448h1632 4896 × 3264 px.
6. Requirements for photos in preview mode – JPG, size – from 800×600 to 1024×768 px px.
7. The photographs with the date in the corner of the photo, as well as imprinted with the copyright and various labels cannot be accepted.
8. Duplicate or slightly modified photographs (for example one frame in the color and the other in black / white version, as well as similar photos) cannot be accepted.
9. For the message about the authorship of photographs please use the metadata formats EXIF, IPTC / XMP saved in the image property.
10. Photographs that do not meet the above requirements for participation in the Competition will not be accepted.

THE EVALUATION CRITERIA

The photographs submitted for the Competition must meet at least one of the competition criteria:

• Comply with the Competition themes;
• Originality;
• Photo quality (focus, the balance of light and shade, composition, etc.);
• Original content.

Schedule

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

1. The Competition is held in two stages.
2. First stage of the Competition: the Photographs will be posted on the Competition Website. Pre-registered users are able to vote for the posted photographs.
3. Representatives of Russian and international mining industry are allowed to vote.
4. One user may vote for the same photo once, re-votes are not counted.
5. Second stage of the Competition: the nominated works are evaluated by a competent Jury.
6. The winners of the Competition will be decided for each nominated category (1, 2, 3rd place)
7. Organising Committee and the Jury can make a decision to award a special prize presented by the Competition partners and sponsors of which the contestants will be informed.
8. The works of the finalists will be presented at the winners will be announced at the”MINEX Russia”, which will be held from 3 to 4 October 2012 at the Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel in Moscow. The works of the finalists may also be published in the media reports and articles published after the forum by its Information and Media partners.
9. The list of Competition winners will be published on the MINEX Forum websites.

Russian and international organisations working in the mining industry in Russia are invited to become sponsors of the competition.

Raised sponsorship funds will be invested in:

• Organisation of the photographic exhibition display at the Forum
• Publication of the ” MINERS AND MINES OF RUSSIA” Photography Yearbook (Almanac)
• Organisation of the Awards Ceremony and purchasing the prizes
• Creation of the national Internet-based Photo Club devoted to mining and geological amateur photography in Russia.

“MINERS AND MINES OF RUSSIA 2012″ YEARBOOK

ADVERTISING TERMS

The annual amateur photography competition “MINERS AND MINES OF RUSSIA 2012” is organised at the 8th Mining and Mineral Exploration forum “MINEX Russia 2012″ in Moscow on 3-4 October 2012.

“MINERS AND MINES OF RUSSIA 2012″ PHOTOGRAPHY YEARBOOK containing the works of the competition finalists will be published at the end of the competition and presented to the Forum delegates.

The main objectives of the photo competition are:

• Presentation of the wealth of Russian mineral resources as seen through the eyes of the people working in the mining industry in Russia;
• Gathering and publication of a unique collection of works of amateur photographers in mining industry;
• Providing an opportunity for organizations involved in mining industry in Russia to participate in a unique social program aimed at promoting mining profession and development of artistic taste among the amateurs working in the industry.
• Creation of a permanent national online Photo Club in Russia devoted to mining and geological topics.

500 copies of the yearbook will be distributed among the participants of 8th Mining and Mineral Exploration forum “MINEX Russia 2012″

200 copies of the yearbook will be distributed among the participants MINEX Moscow Mining Club

300 copies of the yearbook will be distributed at the MINEX organised events in Kazakhstan, China and the UK and also at the MINEX exhibition stands at the Russian and International Mining Trade Shows and Conferences

The electronic version of the of the yearbook will be posted on Web sites www.minexforum.com and www.minexrussia.com
